According to a Shanghai Daily report, on 19 August 2016 the immigration inspection station at Shanghai Pudong International Airport has expanded its self-service entry inspection channels to foreigners holding residence permits for six months or longer and electronic passports.
After registering the passport, fingerprints and facial image before the first use at the immigration inspection station at the airport, so registered foreigners can then simply pass through one of the electronic channels at the airport. Similar to what most will know from other automatic systems like in Hong Kong, it will be necessary to open the first gate by scanning the passport, and then the second gate will open after electronic recognition of the fingerprint and face.
